Matlock Live! Registers a Community Interest

Matlock Live! The annual Arts Festival based in Hall Leys Park today received confirmation from the Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies that it can become a Community Interest Company.

Groups wanting to set up Community Interest Companies must be successful in a “Community Interest Test” which means that the purposes of the company have to be in the community or wider public interest.

Matlock Live! Steering Group Chair Phil Askham said:

“As a committee we are delighted that our bid to become a Community Interest Company has been successful, Matlock Live! has held ambitions to set the festival up on a more sustainable footing and this is a great leap forward.  Being a Community Interest Company means all the money raised by Matlock Live! is re-invested in future festivals and events”.

Matlock Live! has been running for five years ago as a focus for the celebration and promotion of all the arts together with the sheer enjoyment of creativity in the community for young and old alike.

It aims to raise the profile of the arts throughout the community, inspiring the involvement and interest of people of all ages through the provision of workshops, performances, exhibitions and a range of other live events.

It also aims to inspire people to try new things and give people the chance to work together in new ways and have the opportunities to access different resources using the skills and talents of local people wherever possible.

Membership of Matlock Live! is open to any arts organisations or individuals with an interest in the arts.

Planning for the next annual event, taking place over the weekend of 21/22 June, centred mainly in Hall Leys Park, is well advanced and will include a varied  programme of workshops, demonstrations and performances.
